Hello
Family & friends:
As a Democratic Candidate for Governor and running as a Clean Election
Candidate I need your help to succeed and represent you in Augusta. I
want to set the tone that WE must work together to develop strong
solutions to move our State forward but not on the backs of our citizens
or the expense of our environment. This email is the beginning of an
initial 10 1/2 month journey to the gubernatorial primary in June. Our
success to stabilizing this State comes from a joint effort from all of
us.
Take a look at the attachment, it is two forms that need to be completed
by Maine registered voters. I am asking you to pass this email to your
friends or you can print the attachment and pass it on to others who are
interested in contributing to my seed fund. This fund will be utilized
between now and April 1, 2010. On April 1, 2010 I am no longer able to
fundraise, as a clean election candidate any funds unspent from the seed
fund will be deducted from the total that the State will issue to me. On
April 1st the State will issue me $400,000 minus and remaining seed
money. I am to run my campaign with those funds only. I am not allowed
to accept any special interest funds, no PAC funds. If I accepted inkind
services I would need to deduct that from my $400,000 and return that
portion back to the State. As we get closer to the primary on June 10,
2010 and any of my opponents, who are traditional candidates, exceed the
$400,000 the State will match dollar for dollar of the excess over
$400,000 up to an additional $200,000. When I win the primary I report
all my expenditures and the balance of the unspent funds are then
deducted from my State allocation of $600,000. I begin the general
election campaign with a maximum of $600,000, but for the November
election as we get closer to November and if my opponent exceeds the
$600,000, once again the State will match my opponents amount dollar for
dollar up to another $600,000.
I need your help I want to follow the strict requirements of the Clean
Election Law, I want to level the playing field but by not being
attached to special interest groups. I have one special interest it is
the interest of all the people of Maine.
I have two qualifying events I must satisfy to be a clean election candidate:
1.
Collect $40,000 from Maine registered voters.
They can be from any
party. I want to have as
many people involved as possible so I am looking
at trying to collect $10 from 4,000 registered individuals am requesting
each contribution to be at least $10 but as a clean election candidate I
can not accept any larger than $100.00.
But I can collect additional amounts but not to exceed $200,000.
Checks made out to:
Donna J. Dion for
Governor
Send to:
P.O. Box 2011
Biddeford, Maine 04005
2. Start only on October 15th, 2009.
Collect from 4,000 registered voters $5
This can be an on line contribution to the State of Maine fund for clean
election.
When they activate the site I will email the link
or
I will have a form for those I collect personally, but the
checks will still be made out to the State
Starting after January 1, 2010, I can start collecting my required
qualifying signatures, minimum of 4,000 and a maximum of 6,000
registered
democrats. I will need those signatures to be officially on the ballot
for
the primary on June 10, 2010. I will get those petitions from the
Secretary of State in January.
The magic number is:
4,000 contributors of $10
each for my seed money NOW
4,000 contributors of $5
each for the State Clean Election Fund STARTING: Oct 15th,
2009
4,000 petition signature of
qualified Maine registered
Democratics STARTING: January 2nd and ending March 1st, 2010
Your help is greatly appreciated.
