Who are Clean Election Candidates:

 

Someone who:

1.             First qualifying event: after registering as a candidate with the intent of being a Clean Election Candidate, I must collect seed money. My goal: to start collecting immediately from my date of registering as a candidate July 17, 2009, to the end of the qualifying period, April 1st, 2010.

 

2.             Must collect $40,000 in seed money from registered voters from Maine, not PACs or Big Businesses.  Seed money allows the candidate to set up their campaign. State of Maine’s maximum seed level is $200,000, the balance of $200,000 minus the required $40,000 can be collected by individuals in and out of the State of Maine. My goal: to collect:     4,000 - $10 donations   $40,000 MUST DO TO QUALIFY

1,600 - $25             $40,000

  800 - $50             $40,000

  400 - $100            $40,000

Misc  - $1 to $100      $40,000

TOTAL                   $200,000

 

3.             Can collect donations ranging from $1 to a maximum of $100 from individuals.  My goal: collect from at least 4,000 Maine registered voters a $10 contribution. Each individual must sign a State Form acknowledging their contribution.

 

4.             Second qualifying event: Must start collecting from October 15th to April 1st, 2010, a minimum of 3,250 qualifying contribution from Maine registered voters from any political party.  The contribution must be at least $5 made out directly to the Maine Clean Election Fund. An on line website will be initiated by the State.  On this website individuals will be able to officially make their contributions directly to the State Maine.  My goal: to get a minimum of 4,000 qualifying $5 contributions from registered voters, from any political party.

 

5.             Final qualifying event: Between January 2, 2010 and April 1st, 2010, I must collect a minimum of 4,000 and a maximum of 6,000 qualifying Maine registered democratic voters to sign my petition to officially allow me to be on the primary ballot in June 2010. My goal: to collect all required signatures and have them all validated by all appropriate town or city clerk’s offices and submitted to the Secretary of State by March 15th, 2010.
