Maine
CANDIDATE
FOR GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF
Message from
Donna
To family,
friends and fellow
As a
Democratic Candidate for the office of Governor in the June 2010
primary, I need to turn to you for help.
I need to meet groups of people throughout the State, the most
successful way of doing that is through
a grass root approach.
I need you to help me do that.
I will work to get all invitations onto my calendar.
Here is
information on me:
I was born
and raised in Biddeford and graduated from Biddeford High in 1970. My
Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration was received from
the University of Maine in Machias. My degree major is in accounting.
I am 57 years old and have been married 31 years to my husband
Michael. My experiences are vast including being an active and
successful mother, grandmother and a financial professional.
I have never been classified as the typical politician. My
extensive professional experiences and successes have spanned the last
35 years.
The
following is a condensed list of my work experience:
·
From 1997 to
2003, I was the Mayor of the City of Biddeford and Chair of the School
Board. My administration
brought transparency, structure and consistency into a very cloudy
budget process, at the same time improving the City’s infrastructure,
adding a new school and expanding the job market.

·
From 1974 to
1986 I worked for Time/Warner both in Maine and New York. I held the
positions of Business, Accountant and Human Resource Manager.
·
From 1987 to
1995 and again from 2006 to present (11 ½ yrs) I have held the position
of the Chief Financial Officer for two non-profit agencies.
In both time frames, I have lived through the horrors of the
State of Maine’s budget deficits.
On both occasions, I was able to provide a sound financial
structure and growth for both organizations.
As a
volunteer for various local and State organizations, I expanded my
experience in other critical areas:
·
Served as a
member/Vice Chair of the Coastal Counties Workforce Board for 4 ½ yrs.
Our goals were to “create opportunities for learning, prosperity
and growth for changing workplace needs”.
·
Served on
the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army for 11 yrs.
Our goal was to assist the less fortunate in acquiring their
basic needs of food and shelter.
·
During my
tenure as Mayor, I played a key role in the development of the State of
Maine’s Ad Hoc Environmental Committee, Maine Air Toxics Initiative
(MATI). The committee was
facilitated by DEP funded by EPA and established in November 2003. I
remained an active member throughout the committee’s existence up to
2008. Our goal was to
evaluate the volatile organic compounds (VOC) being emitted into our
atmosphere.
·
As an
original member and grant writer, I helped establish the Coastal Health
Communities Coalition, funded by the State of Maine’s tobacco funds.
·
As a member
of Maine Mentoring Partnership Advisor Board, I participated from its
origination to its consolidation into Jobs for Maine Graduates (JMG).
·
I was the
primary force behind the local development of Biddeford’s and Saco’s
Communities for Children, a State of Maine’s initiative supported by
Governor King and first lady Mary Herman.
This summary
is but a small synopsis of my commitment and ability to represent the
needs of my community and create change.
I would like an opportunity to meet with you to discuss your
needs and how my life experiences and my strong work ethics can lead the
State of Maine in a more positive and fiscally responsible direction.
I would be
honored to serve the State of Maine as a non-traditional politician,
working directly with the people, in making Maine a more
educationally and economically sound place to live and
prosper.
Thank you
for your time. I look forward to speaking with you!
